Iowa Cubs Secure New Naming Sponsor

By Bill Miller

The class-AAA Pacific Coast League's Iowa Cubs signed a $2.5 million naming rights agreement with Principal Financial Group which will be used in conjunction with $1 million from the City of Des Moines and $1 million from the team to fund a $.5 million improvement program at the home of the Chicago Cubs' top minor league affiliate.

The term of the agreement was undisclosed.  An additional park entrance, walkway, children's play area and picnic area are among the facility improvements being funded by the deal. Extensive signage and logo placement opportunities were also announced as part of the agreement.

The deal makes the I-Cubs the 57th team in professional baseball to play at a named facility. The deal was the 15th completed for a professional sports facility in the United States or Canada already in 2004.
