Busch Name Remains on New Cardinals Stadium

By Bill Miller

Major League Baseball's St. Louis Cardinals inked a 20-year naming rights agreement with Anheuser-Busch which ensures that the St. Louis-based brewer's name will continue to remain on the home of the Cardinals once the team moves to a new stadium in 2006.

Financial terms for the deal were undisclosed. According to a press release from the parties, Anheuser-Busch will also have exclusive alcohol beverage sponsorship on all Cardinals radio and television broadcasts. Extensive signage opportunities were also announced as part of the agreement.

The deal makes the Cardinals the 17th team in Major League Baseball to play at a named facility. Or, potentially the 18th, if one counts the Florida Marlins playing at Pro Player Stadium under a now-defunct arrangement.

The deal was the 16th completed for a professional sports facility in the United States or Canada already in 2004.
